Artfarm and local elementary students are busily preparing for a very special concert to be held Monday, November 15 at 7:30 pm at the Vallican Whole Community Centre. The National Arts Centre orchestra’s Musicians in the Schools String Quintet is coming to perform.
The students are learning the recorder and voice parts from Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and will play with the String Quintet at this not-to-be-missed family event. Yamaha Canada is donating 50 recorders and is sponsoring a recorder instructor to help prepare the students for the concert.
Another treat will be a special performance with Matthew Pierce, our local audio architect, who has been a participant at Artfarm for two years now. He will “jam” with the quintet, offering his unique brand of accompaniment.
This “2004 Legacy Project” by the National Arts Centre will see these fine musicians travel the world, offering inspiration to young people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to hear live music of this calibre.
The event is a gift from the National Arts Centre of Canada. It is a fundraiser for Artfarm to begin a formal music program for our community. There will be a silent auction with special treats from local artists and the NAC.
Admission is by donation; suggested $15, with children under 12 and seniors over 60 free but you must reserve these spots with ArtFarm. The evening begins at 7:30 sharp at the Vallican Whole. Tickets are available at Jennie’s Garden in Winlaw, Artfarm in Winlaw, Otter Books in Nelson, Capitol Theatre in Nelson and Homestead Art Supplies in Castlegar.
