Lemon Creek - Communities of the Slocan Valley

Lemon Creek8 km (5 miles) south of the village of Slocan, a clear rushing mountain stream runs under the highway. This is Lemon Creek.

There is a rest stop at the side of the Highway 6 bridge over the creek and a seasonal food stand with an interesting menu across the highway. Lemon Creek also has a modern lodge with all the amenities, restaurant and campground.

Like so many other communities in this area, it started with mining. The Chapleau mine was one of the first properties in the area. In 1896 gold and silver were found, and until 1900 development was rapid. An aerial tramway and stamp mill were erected. In 1904, the mine closed, and little remained of what once was.

As a settlement, Lemon Creek became yet another Slocan Valley internment camp to house many Japanese-Canadians during World War II. David Suzuki, the world-famous environmentalist, author and TV personality, spent part of his youth here.

Lemon Creek marks another entrance into the renowned Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park. There are also excellent mountain biking trails in this area. Check our links and recreation section for more information.
